Tips for using OpenAds with WordPress

October 28, 2007

Having previously mentioned that I have started to test OpenAds ad management software I thought others who decide to use this combination might benefit from my experiences so far.

Javascript in WordPress posts

To place OpenAds ads on your site or blog you need to paste in some invocation code that generates the ad whether it be text or a banner. I have found that you cannot directly paste this code into a post within WP. There is a workaround documented on the WordPress codex site but it's a bit too much hassle for my liking. I'll be using it on my other non WordPress sites though.

OpenAds statistics and reports

One of the major plus points of using OpenAds to manage your ad inventory and you affiliate links is that it provides statistics. If you are selling advertising on your site or want to find how effective you ad space is then the statistics will provide you with impression, click, CTR, revenue and CPM.

The whole management system takes a bit of learning and with most other systems I would have given up long ago. I still haven't mastered the whole process yet but I have a good idea of the potential of the system. In fact since starting to use OpenAds I have spotted quite a few heavyweight sites using it.
