If you are planning on selling advertising on your blog or website or just want some way of managing existing advertising then you need some ad management software. I downloaded OpenAds months ago but have just gotten round to installing it. The reason I have been putting it off is because it looked a bit daunting.
On the sites I run advertising including affiliate links I have been manually managing the ads. This has worked ok but it is difficult keeping track of which ads are running and when they expire and to be honest some ads are still running and I have no idea where they are. I wanted a solution that put all the management in one place, on one screen.
Before I installed OpenAds I had a rough idea of what it was capable of. You can use it to manage your banners, flash, pop-ups and text ads which includes text links. It allows you to specify the type of advertising you want to display, you then create the ads and paste in some code into your site. I've oversimplified the process as there are a huge range of options, there quick tour explains it better than I can.
So far I have set up and tested a single text link within a block of text. The great thing about doing this rather than just adding an affiliate link directly to your site is that you get reporting for clicks. This means I can now tell how many times a link or ad is clicked on and how well it is performing.
