Less blogging more affiliate

January 25, 2008

Something I have noticed as a trend for 2008 is that many bloggers are now focussing more on affiliate work rather than trying to monetize a blog. Of course these are just my observations and not a well researched trend. Why is this happening?

The blogs don't work

One of the things about blogging is that everyone is doing it and few are making money from it. At the end of 2007 there was a spate of blog selling, particularly of the webmaster kind as bloggers refocused and cashed in.

The reasons for this change I believe is to do with Google's new rules on not selling PR links. The other reason is that webmasters are realising they can make more money by putting their time into using PPC to push visitors to their landing pages rather than try to attract organic traffic. Organic traffic can be very fickle, or is that the search engines.

Affiliates are the new bloggers

It's official bloggers are no longer cool, it's the affiliates who are the new rock and roll. Of course those affiliates that have sold their blogs can't brag about how well they are doing but those that have decided to waffle on can.

New UK server

I decided it was about time I hit the UK market being that I live in the UK and the almighty dollar is worth only pennies. Being a wary type I decided to go with my current provider who has do a good to great job so far, especially for the price.

Disappointingly they did let me down when I signed up for the new UK hosting but apparently they were having IP routing problems. After much moaning on my part they did get me a fully working account going. I am very happy so far with the new hosting account and have found sites load zippingly fast. Seriously thanks guys.
