I have decided to take the step to move one of my blogs away from Wordpress to a custom solution and deblogify it. There are several reasons mostly due to comment spamming and lack of control. What will happen to the site.
You would have thought it would be dead easy to export your content from Wordpress. Well the process is easy it's just that it doesn't work, I get only half the content. Instead I have had to literally cut and paste the content.
The next job is setting up redirects for the content. Wordpress uses .htaccess so only the folder is displayed rather than the .php extension file. Whilst this seems to be good for SEO I have decided to use 301 redirects for most of the post pages. That means creating an entry for each post.
As yet the site has not been transferred, I am a little apprehensive about what the results will be. However I am determined to leave Wordpress. I will let you all know how it goes, I guess it will be kind of interesting to see if the site loses rankings or PR. It will also show us how much Google loves Wordpress.
It has been fun experimenting with Wordpress and OpenAds but it's time to move on.
